Skin Protection from Summer Sun and Heat

Did you know the skin is the largest organ in the human body?  It is similar to the size of a large towel.

It absorbs 60% of everything you apply on it -body lotion, deodorant, makeup, perfume, etc.  An average woman uses close to 12 beauty products per day, which contain up to 168 ingredients, some of which are potentially toxic.

So we want to share with you some recipes so you can make products at home with natural ingredients, to protect, hydrate and soothe your skin and your family’s this summer.  

Homemade Sunscreen – Lotion (20 SPF)

  • 2 oz shea butter
  • 2 oz coconut oil
  • 1 oz zinc oxide
  • 8 drops of tea tree oil

Instructions:

  1. Place first two ingredients in a glass jar.  Set in boiling water until melted.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in zinc oxide.
  3.  Add tea tree oil drops.
  4. Pour into container.
  5. Let cool completely before use. Store at room temperature.

 

Homemade Sunblock – Waterproof Bars (20 SPF)

  • 1.5 oz beeswax
  • 1.5 oz shea butter
  • 1.5 oz coconut oil
  • 1 oz zinc oxide
  • 10 drops of tea tree oil

Instructions:

  1. Place the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil in a jar.  Set in boiling water to melt.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in zinc oxide. Pour into molds such as deodorant container caps or ice cube trays.)
  3. Allow to cool completely. Remove from molds and refrigerate until used.

 

Homemade Sunburn Spray

The perfect remedy to any sunburn. The aloe vera and coconut oil help to rehydrate your skin, and the peppermint essential oil soothes the inflammation.

  • 1/2 cup liquid aloe vera juice
  • 1/8 cup fractionated coconut oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil
  • glass spray bottle

Instructions:

  1. Place coconut oil and aloe vera juice in a jar.
  2. Place jar in boiling water until mixture is liquid.
  3. Remove from heat and add the essential oils.  Mix well.
  4. Pour into spray bottle and store in a cool place.


 

Hydrating Lavender and Rose Water Toner

  • 4 tablespoons rose water
  • 2 tablespoons witch hazel
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 5–10 drops Rosehip oil
  • 5 drops tea tree oil
  • 5 drops lavender oil or your favorite essential oil scent

Instructions:

  1. Place the rose water, witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, rosehip oil, tea tree oil and lavender oil in a bowl. Mix well with a spoon.
  2. Transfer to a small glass spray bottle.
  3. Apply on clean face and eyes closed.

 

Rehydrating Homemade Electrolyte Drink

  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups of water (filtered or purified) or raw coconut water
  • 2 tbsp organic raw honey or organic maple syrup
  • 1/8 tsp *Himalayan Pink salt or Celtic sea salt   (*contains 84 trace minerals)

Instructions:

  1. Put all ingredients in a blender and blend well.
  2. Store in Mason jars or reusable glass cap bottles.
  3. Cool before drinking.

 

Aloe Vera Exfoliating Cream for a Softer Skin

  • Aloe vera gel
  • Cucumber
  • Oat flour

Instructions:

  1. On slow speed, blend pieces of cucumber and aloe vera gel to form a paste.
  2. Add some oat flour to get desired consistency, and mix well.
  3. Apply on clean face and massage in circles.
  4. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse.

 

Aloe Vera Face Mask for Dry Skin

  • Aloe vera gel
  • Almonds

Instructions:

  1. Crush some almonds in blender.
  2. Mix with aloe vera gel to form a paste
  3. Apply on face and neck, and leave for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse.
